Ice World at Forfar Indoor sports is currently a hive of activity with the staff busy getting the premises ready to launch the new ice skating season from Friday, October 2.

Following a very successful summer of roller skating sessions the ice is being set to welcome back ice skaters old and new.

The season will kick off with special exhibitions and a skate with the stars session on the evening of Friday, October 2 when the centre is delighted to welcome Karly Robertson the current British Senior Ladies Champion on to the ice to perform an exhibition skate ably backed up by Natasha McKay the current British Ladies Bronze medallist. Both ladies have represented Team GB on numerous occasions and Karly is of course the resident elite coach at Forfar’s Ice World.

Following the skating exhibition there will be a 15 minute Skate With The Stars session where Karly and Natasha will free skate with all present on the ice.

In addition to the skating exhibition Ice World will be launching their new laser light show which will bring a whole new experience to the skating hall with new sets of modern laser lights installed together with smoke machines and special effects designed to create a terrific atmosphere.

Ice World Skating Club Chairperson Julienne Murray says: “We are very excited and looking forward to another new season of ice skating in Forfar. A lot of hard work has gone into planning ahead and we are ready to welcome everyone back on to the ice in October. It is going to be a lot of fun for all ages and skill levels.” Doors open at 6.30pm with family skating prior to the exhibition and a disco session after the Skate with the stars with doors closing at 9pm. Prices will be discounted for this opening night at £5 per skater with free skate hire.

The Skate UK coaching programme will again be up and running for the new season with Karly and her team of elite coaches helping train and develop ice skaters of all ages and ability throughout the season. You can register for the coaching lessons on the opening night and throughout the weekend. Coaching sessions are held on Saturday and Sunday mornings with General Open to All Skating Sessions held Saturday and Sunday afternoons between 2pm and 4pm.

Due to demand the popular snowbabies session (18 months to 5 years) has been split to accommodate morning (10am to 11am) and afternoon (2pm to 3pm) sessions with the first snowbabies sessions taking place on Friday 2nd October and every Friday thereafter.

Officials are also inviting applications from individuals keen to be ice stewards for the new season. In a break with a tradition, and for the first time in Ice World’s history, these will be paid positions and as such Ice Stewards will be expected to go through a training programme to ensure high standards of customer service and safety are maintained at all times. Applicants must be aged 16 and over and can ice skate to a reasonable level. To apply please forward an email to by Friday 18th September, 2015.
