Forfar West End manager Daryl McKenzie is thrilled with the additions he’s made to his squad.
The West End boss moved quickly to replace a number of players who had departed the Strathmore Park outfit at the end of the campaign and he said he’s delighted with what he’s brought in as Josh Moncrieff, David Bray, Rory Bews and Ian and Callum Petrie have joined the club.
Young trio Fraser Reid, Struan Docherty and Nathan McLaren have also made the step up from the U19s team though the latter two will be heading out to neighbours Forfar Albion on six-month loans.
McKenzie said: “Things are going really well. We’ve been back for two weeks and we’re starting the third week now.
“We’ve got most of our squad together and we’re hopefully signing one more forward player before the end of pre-season.
“We’ve brought three boys up from the U19s team and we’ve signed five others. It’ll give us 20 players but two will be going out on loan.
“The U19s are Fraser Reid goalkeeper, Struan Docherty who is a forward, and Nathan McLaren who is a midfielder. We’ve agreed to send Struan and Nathan out to Forfar Albion for the first six months of the season.
“We’ve signed two defenders. Josh Moncrieff, who was released by Dundee U17s last season, and David Bray from Dundee North End.
“We signed two brothers from Lochee Harp, Ian and Callum Petrie - Ian is a midfielder and Callum is a winger/forward type player.
“We’re signing Rory Bews, a midfielder from Carnoustie Panmure. We’re probably just looking at a forward after that.
“They bring a lot of youth and exuberance into the team and that’s what served us well last year.
“Hopefully that’s the same this year. They’re all under 25, Bews aside, so hopefully they can play for the club for a number of years.
“They’re all players who we feel are improving over the last few years and we’ve got them at the right time of their development.
“The only exception is Rory. I tried to sign him before he went to Carnoustie so he’s someone we’ve always had our eye on, so we were delighted when he became available.
“We released a few players and we lost some to other clubs, which was disappointing. But we had to replace them quickly.
“Pre-season training is the time of the season I enjoy most, it’s really important to get everybody in together as soon as possible so I was really keen to get the new boys in.”
Those who left the club were as follows:- Darren Scott (retired), Gavin Tinley (retired), Cammy Johnstone (released), Derek Patterson (released), Mark McDonald (released), Gary Robertson (new club) and John Farquharson (new club).
Signing new deals are Liam and Mark Godfrey, Matty Reynolds, Scott Fullerton, Daryl Burns, Craig Stephen, Ross McDonald, top scorer Graeme Hart and new club captain Matty Ramsay.
