Kirrie Thistle maintained their unbeaten run in the East Region North Division with a 3-0 win over Angus rivals Arbroath Vics.

The Jags welcomed a youthful Vics side yet to collect a single point and minus last season’s top scorer Kane Hester, who has made the jump to senior football with Arbroath.

Kirrie added to their squad during the week out with the securing of goalkeeper Neil Craig, Derek Paterson at centre half and Ross Carnegie up top.

The game began at a slow pace with a long period of scrappy play meaning no team could make a breakthrough.

Goalkeeper Sloan was tested only once in the opening half but dealt with it well.

Thistle welcomed Greg Birmingham into the starting 11 but the ex-Carnoustie Panmure winger failed to grab a real hold of the game and was subbed midway though the second half.

Kirrie did take the lead just before half time however, striker Cox firing the ball into the net to open his Thistle scoring account.

The game continued in the same fashion as the second half began with neither side truly making waves.

But it was the hosts who were the more clinical of the two which was representative in the score as they grabbed a second, Muckersie feeding Cox with a delightful chipped pass and the striker made no mistake in burying the ball into the net.

Kirrie almost got a third through Thomson but keeper Carnegie - undoubtedly the Vics man of the match - made a brilliant save one on one, keeping the score down again.

Cox did complete his hat-trick late on latching onto a pass from the left and cutting inside before driving low into the corner.

The victory moves Kirrie into fourth in the league table, and while it’s only a few games into the season the early points on the board will be a delightful sight.

Elsewhere Coupar Angus’ bubble was burst as they were put to the sword 6-1 by Downfield, North End thrashed Forfar Albion 7-0, Lochore and Scone shared the goals one apiece at Farquharson Park whilst Brechin Vics were humbled 4-1 by Blairgowrie.

Lochee Harp were best 5-1 by East Craigie and Kinnoull added to Newburghs miseries with a comfortable 2-0 win.

Thistle travel to face Kennoway Star Hearts in the DJ Laing Cup first round next week.
