Forfar Boys Under-14s ended up on the wrong side of a rather flattering three goals to one score line at home to Monifieth last Sunday.
On a heavy pitch both sides served up a hard and close fought match with no quarter given by either team with Forfar unlucky not to have taken something from the game.
The home side started slowly and were soon a goal down, but Beattie in the Forfar goal pulled off two excellent saves to give the home side the platform to work their way back into the game.
Forfar were soon pushing forward and when Davidson won a corner on the right Mitchell swung the kick to the edge of the box for Edward to fire home a great low strike through a ruck of players into the net.
Forfar were well worth their equaliser and they matched a very strong Monifieth team man for man all over the park.
Shortridge and Crozier were solid against a quick front line, with Simpson and Norrie working back to cover the flanks.
Norrie in particular made several excellent tackles which earned him joint man of the match status with Edward who linked up the play very well from middle to front.
The second half continued as a close contest with Baillie and Fotheringham outstanding in the centre of midfield with Roy and Mitchell working hard down the wings.
Forfar were caught by a quick Monifieth break as the visitors took the lead again, but they collectively stuck to the task and were very unfortunate to lose another goal when a long range shot struck the cross bar and was bundled over the line.
Forfar were undeterred and for the remainder of the second half they kept Monifieth pegged back with some excellent football and sustained pressure.
Mitchell forced the visiting keeper to deal with some dangerous balls into the box from the left, and with Davidson taking up some good positions up front Forfar were always a threat to the visitors’ goal.
Roy stung the palms of the Monifieth keeper from inside the box and Edward fired over the bar as Forfar tried all they could to score, but despite some terrific pressure and great endeavour they were unable to get back amongst the goals.
The Forfar team on the day was Beattie, Simpson, Crozier, Shortridge (c), Norrie, Roy, Baillie, Fotheringham, Mitchell, Edward and Davidson.
