Gavin Swankie says Forfar Athletic will be looking to win League One this year.

The 30-year-old striker believes there’s no point playing the game if you aren’t trying to win everything.

And though the full-time sides of Dunfermline and Morton look favourites for the championship, Dick Campbell is assembling a squad of a very high standard - one that Gavin believes has been given a great injection of experience.

He said: “We’ve got a good squad here, there’s experience and youth, and obviously our aim is to win the league.

“If your aim isn’t to do that then there’s no point. But we’ll go out there and do the best we can.

“It’s good experience that’s come in, Derek Young, Danny Denholm, Dale Hilson etc.

“These are boys that have played at high levels and in this league, so they know what it is all about.

“It can only add strength to the squad.”

Forfar have enjoyed a fantastic pre-season with some very impressive displays, including well deserved draws with the likes of Dundee United and Livingston, and while the results don’t matter Gavin acknowledges that the team have done well.

He added: “These sort of games you don’t worry about the result, obviously you want to win but it’s all about work ethic and getting the ball down, keeping it and enjoying yourselves.”

Swankie was joint-top scorer for the Loons last season, finishing on 14 goals alongside fellow forward Dale Hilson.

The elder of the two hopes to see a repeat of those figures this year.

He said: “I’d love to beat Dale but hopefully we both can get double figures again.”
