Point for Forfar in Dunfermline clash

Forfar Athletic took just a point home with them from Dunfermline after a late equaliser for the home side.

Dick Campbell made a few changes to his side after the Rangers defeat on Tuesday night. Darren Hill was replaced in goal by Rab Douglas while Marvin Andrews and Dale Hilson, who was injured on Tuesday, made way for Gary Fusco and James Dale.

Neil McCabe and Gavin Malin were on the bench.

Rab Douglas was called into action within the first minute as an Alex Whittle cross looked dangerous for the visitors.

Five minutes in the home side had another good chance when Ryan Wallace found Ryan Thomson in the box but his shot failed to hit the mark.

While it looked like either side could break the deadlock, Forfar took the lead 19 minutes in. Swankie won a free kick for the visitors after a Josh Falkingham foul 35 yards out. Chris Templeman met the ball at the edge of the box and sent it over to Darren Dods who fired in from 12 yards to make it 1-0.

The home side looked like they might level up four minutes later when Ryan Williamson played a ball from the right to meet Whittle on the other side. Whittle’s shot was blocked well by Douglas but the rebound fell to Allan Smith who sent the ball wide.

Not long after the half hour mark Gavin Swankie got in ahead of Callum Morris only to see his attempt hit the left side post.

Half-Time: Dunfermline Athletic 0, Forfar Athletic 1

Three minutes into the second half Swankie had a good shot blocked by home ‘keeper Ryan Scully. A minute later the home side could have equalised again but a Kerr Young header just whistled over the top of the bar.

Swankie again looked like he might be about to increase the deficit just before the hour mark but his shot was blocked by the home defence. And it proved not to be his day when another opportunity was denied by the home ‘keeper a few minutes later.

With Forfar’s defence looking strong it seemed like the home side would be empty handed by the end of the encounter.

But two minutes into stoppage time Dunfermline won a free kick 30 yards out. The Stephen Husband kick fell to Jordan Moore and his shot gave Douglas no chance as he took the equaliser.
