Omar Kader: We’ll be fine if red-hot strike duo keep on scoring

Wing king Omar Kader saw signs of last year’s free-scoring side in Forfar Athletic’s stunning 3-1 victory over Ayr United on Saturday.

The breathtaking counter-attacking, intelligent movement and incisive ball distribution had the Honest Men reeling at the hands of Gary Bollan’s team in the second half after an opening 45 minutes that was tighter than a second coat of paint.

Kader was happy to see the Loons tighten up defensively while also converting their chances at the other end - two things they’ve been sometimes unable to do in recent weeks.

He said: “There were touches of what we were like last year, getting the ball and really going for it on the break while being defensively solid.

“We’ve been conceding some poor goals so first and foremost we wanted to make sure we were more solid at the back, and we have been.

“Then with Andy Ryan and Steven Craig coming in, they’ve got loads of goals between them. If you’re going to get out of bother you need to score goals, and there’s probably not many strikers in better form just now.

“You need a bit of quality up there and they’re confident, taking goals well. It’s helping us get out of where we are.”

Omar believes the sort of passion and resolve shown at Station Park on Saturday is exactly what’s needed from Forfar in the League One relegation fight.

And he says they have to keep going with their endeavour as a resurgent Brechin City keep on their tails.

He added: “That’s what you need at this stage of the season with the position we’re in, everybody needs to dig in whether you get a point or you get three points. That’s what we’ve been doing the last few games.

“We just have to keep going. Brechin win as well so it’s very tight down there. We just need to keep going and take each game as it comes.”
