Winger Omar Kader hopes he can play a key role in the remainder of Forfar Athletic’s challenge for the League One title.
But Kader admitted competition for places will be fierce as the Loons squad all look to be involved in the final five games of the season.
Omar was speaking after his fourth goal of the campaign helped Forfar to their biggest win of the year, a 4-0 romp at home to Stirling Albion.
Kader said: “We’re delighted. The first thing obviously is to get the win. We knew Stirling were going to battle for everything given that they’re cut adrift a wee bit, so it was important that we got off to a good start.
“It’s been a while for me since I’ve scored so it was really good to get on the scoresheet. I haven’t played a lot lately so getting a goal and 45 minutes was good.
“Hopefully I can stake a claim for a starting berth. With five games to go, everyone’s going to be involved.
“With every game it’s getting more realistic that we can win the league. You come in and everyone’s saying Morton won 4-0 at Dunfermline or whatever, but it’s important that we take care of ourselves because there’s no point looking elsewhere.
“Promotion is a huge thing for any team but when you look at the teams that could be in the Championship next season, it’s a big carrot.
“Everybody’s feeling really determined. With every result you just get and look to the next game. If you’re getting a victory you’re that wee bit closer, you’re still in the mix and everyone’s buzzing.
“I think five games is still too early to be really bothering with what’s happening in other games. We could go and lose next week if we’re not concentrating so we will just focus on ourselves.
“It’s a great advert for the league.”
