Lowson United 4
Lowson United’s excellent first half performance was enough to see them to victory in this important league game on Saturday.
United started well and could have been ahead within 10 minutes with Calum Howie’s header going over the bar.
Howie was then clear on goal but the keeper was able to save well before a Crighton effort slipped just passed the post.
Newport were looking dangerous with a series of crosses into the Lowton box that kept the hosts’ defenders right on their toes.
But Lowson were the ones to grab the first goal when Howie fired past the goalie before turning provider for Richard Hampton to add the second.
Hampton could have scored a second and Lowson’s third but his effort rattled back off the post.
He went one better minutes later though when Ritchie crossed the ball into the box, Hampton showing great composure to go round the goalie and slide the ball home for 3-0.
It was four just on the stroke of half time when Ritchie’s free kick was blocked, Thompson able to seize on it before getting number four.
Newport pulled one back when goalie Munro dropped a cross, with a forward only too happy to smash home.
Lowson struggled to get going in this second half and they allowed Newport back into the game, with the hosts having to defend their lead.
Hampton and Crighton then both went close with chances for United.
Newport did manage to get a second goal from the penalty spot but it wasn’t enough to stop Lowson collecting the three points.
Next up for Lowson is the Bremner Cup final on Friday, May 9 at Tannadice Park with a 7pm kick off.
