The game started brightly for the home side with B Gray going close with a volley and Wilson also screwing a shot wide from ten yards.

Kirriemuir looked dangerous on the break as they tested Sutherland with a shot from distance, minutes later Lornie saw a header come back off the post as KSH launched another attack. Kirriemuir also struck the woodwork when a header from ten yards looped over Sutherland hitting the underside of the bar and despite the claims of the ball crossing the line the referee waved play on.

A frenetic start to the game by both teams saw KSH open the scoring with in form striker Band gathering the ball 25 yards from goal and carefully placing a shot into the goalkeeper`s bottom right hand corner of the goal. Wilson could have added another shortly after when he was clean through on goal only to see his effort saved. The away defence were feeling the pressure as heated arguments broke out as they tried to see the game out to half time to regroup. HT 1-0

The second half was only minutes old when Wilson finally got on the score sheet with a composed finish from 12 yards. The Kirriemuir defence claimed for offside as the Kennoway no10 collected the ball and drew the keeper off his line before rolling the ball into the net.

A few half chances were passed up as Lornie, Band and Wilson combined with a combination of pace and slick passing.

As the half wore on the game drifted into a midfield tussle with little being created by either side. A lifeline for Kirriemuir came in the shape of a penalty after a clumsy foul from Brewster. It was despatched beyond Sutherland and suddenly a game that looked comfortable for the home side went into last 20 mins with an edge to the play.

The returning Bremner in the heart of the defence handled everything with ease and the route into the next round was confirmed after a run from Craig saw the winger crudely fouled just outside the penalty area. Band stepped up to take the free kick and with precision and power he arrowed the ball into the top corner of the net for a sensational strike.
