Kirrie fall to third defeat on bounce at Westview

Kirrie Thistle slumped to a third successive league defeat as they lost 2-0 at Westview Park to an improving East Craigie outfit.

The defeat leaves Thistle fourth bottom in the East Region North Division on 13 points.

A tepid first half saw very little in the way of chances as Craigie saw Knox make a couple of good saves while Kevin Scott, a recent Kirrie loan signing from Dundee Violet, had the best chance at the other end but he couldn’t test Brodie in the visitors’ goal.

In the second half the game became more interesting, with both sides eager for points and the tackles flying in all over the park.

Muckersie, arguably Kirrie’s player of the season so far, was proving a nuisance and tested the Craigie goalie from 20 yards, but he otherwise struggled to make much of an impact.

The deadlock was broken from the spot by the visitors, when after McBride was tugged back in the box, Miller fired right down the middle, giving East Craigie an advantage against the run of play.

Wilson then had an opportunity to double the lead and he duly obliged, exchanging passes before slotting into an empty net.

Skipper Robbie George almost pulled a consolation back in the closing minutes from a long range free kick but Thistle’s fate was sealed.
