Kevin Nicoll admitted that Forfar Athletic’s 2-2 draw against Ayr United was a fair result but felt the Loons could have done better.

The Loons star played all 90 minutes, moving from midfield to defence when Michael Travis was forced off early on.

Nicoll said: “I think we came out the traps flying, playing well and I think Trav going down took the momentum out of it. In the first half I thought we were the better team, obviously there was Yano’s strike at the end of that - he must have been watching me at training - it was a great effort.

”We go into half time 2-0 up and you’ve got to be able to hold onto a two goal lead.

“We came out and we’ve conceded a bad goal, they’ve then went down to 10 men but seemed to be the ones passing around us. Two all is a fair result, they were the better team in the second half but we need to be holding onto two goal leads.”

Nicoll praised both of the Loons’ goals, with Denholm netting a close range volley while Iain Campbell fired into the top corner from 30 yards.

“Danny’s done well, running off the right back and got in front of him before notching it in,” he said.

“Yano, you can see it setting up for him and he’s just smashed it, as soon as it left his foot,

“I knew it was in seeing it from behind, it was a great goal.”

This weekend it’s a massive game for Forfar as they visit League One leaders Dunfermline.
