Due to the phenomenal success of last season’s competition, Scottish Football League Sponsor, IRN-BRU, is bringing back the Ginger Boot Award with a brand spanking new pair of ginger boots!

Players of all three divisions in the SFL are eligible to compete for a pair of the phenomenal new-look ginger boots during the coming campaign, which kicked-off on Saturday.

The first SFL player to get his hands on a pair of the iconic different IRN-BRU boots will be announced at the start of September.

This sought after prize will be available to the top goal scorer each month throughout the 2011-12 season, and every ginger boot winner can then proudly wear their prize in competitive games.

Mark Roberts of Ayr United, one of last season’s Phenomenal Ginger Boot Award winners, unveiled the brand new “Ginger Boots” for 2011/12.

After netting over twenty goals in the last campign, he is certain to be a Ginger Boot contender this season.

Mark Roberts, speaking at Hampden, commented; “The Ginger Boot Award became such a big deal last season – we were all fighting for goals not just for our team to win, but to get our hands on a pair of ginger boots! I just hope I score as many goals as I did last season, as these new boots are great!”

Martin Steele, senior brand manager for IRN-BRU continued: “The Ginger Boot Award was a huge success last season and we had fantastic feedback from our winners, who all loved the boots.

“We are delighted to be running the competition again and the new ginger boots look phenomenal!

“The award brings a very different competitive element to the league and we are sure players throughout the three divisions will give it their all to win a pair of the new look ginger boots.”

Chief executive of the SFL, David Longmuir added:

“Everyone at the Scottish Football League is thrilled to continue this incredibly fun and unique way of recognising the talent that exists in the SFL. The new Ginger Boots look better than ever and will be a coveted prize for any SFL player!”

Supporters will be able to keep up to date with the Ginger Boot leader board in The Scottish Sun every week and a bespoke Ginger Boot trophy will be presented to the season’s top goal scorer at the Phenomenal End of Season Awards in May.
