Forfar youngster joins Tangerines

A YOUNG Forfar footballer has signed a full-time contract with Dundee United.

Full-back Craig Bell, son of Craig and Heather Bell, Gallowshade Rad, Forfar, has signed an initial one-year deal, having caught the eye at under-17 level last season.

The 17-year-old began his football career with Lochside Boys Club, progressing through the various age groups, and regularly featuring in the end-of-season awards.

He then joined Arbroath Football Club, playing at under-14 to under-16 level, and he turned out for the Lichties reserve side on occasion.

After two and a half years with the Gayfield club he was spotted by a Dundee United scout and has spent the last 18 months playing for the Tangerines at under-17 level.

Craig, a former pupil of Kirkriggs Primary School and Forfar Academy, signed his one-year contract in June and is looking forward to playing for the under-19s in the coming season.

A keen sportsman, Craig also enjoyed cross-country events during his school days, featuring at county and international level.

He also competed regularly on the Highland Games circuit, travelling all over the country with his family in the summer months and enjoying his fair share of success in track events.

However, his full concentration is now on his football career and, who knows, he may one day find himself following in the footsteps of other rising stars at United and enjoying a spell on loan at Forfar Athletic.
