Forfar West End has announced that club skipper Martin Black has retired from playing Junior football with immediate effect.
Black has spent 15 years with the club and has been a loyal servant, fantastic player and captain throughout his career at Forfar West End.
He joined the club in September 1998 and has played over 400 competitive fixtures with over 100 of his appearances leading the team out as captain. Black spent a season at Montrose FC during the 1999/00 season but returned to Strathmore after failing to settle with the Links Park side.
An ever present during the club’s successful five-year period between 2006 and 2011, Black captained the team to their undefeated North Division Championship League campaign and also played a pivotal part as the club climbed the divisions. They eventually finished sixth in the East Super League during the 2010/11 season.
He will be sorely missed both in the dressing room and on the pitch but everyone at Strathmore wishes him all the best with his retirement and hopes that he enjoys spending time with wife Denise and son Liam - hopefully it won’t be too long until Liam is pulling on the Forfar West End shirt.
