Alastair Donald has confirmed that he will be staying on as Forfar Athletic chairman.

The Station Park chief had been preparing to step down from his position to focus on business commitments.

A lot of the existing players have already agreed terms, it’s just getting paperwork sorted.

But he was blown away by the response from players and supporters who passionately told Alastair they wanted him to stay.

The chairman said that he felt he had to make his decision swiftly to allow the club to proceed with securing a squad for next year.

He told the Dispatch: “When the players and supporters became aware that it was potentially my last game, I was just blown away from their reaction. It was never a decision about walking away because I wasn’t enjoying it, it was because there’s so much going on in my life in a business sense.

“But I just wasn’t prepared for it - I didn’t think it would bother people that much. I knew I’d done a fairly good job and the club was in a good place, I just wasn’t prepared.

“It was important for me to make my decision very quickly because the club needs a chairman for dealing with players and things.

“A lot of the existing players have already agreed terms, it’s just getting the paperwork sorted. We’ve got a couple of new board members coming in and they’ll be putting some money into the club.

“It’s time to get our heads down and work on achieving what we think we can achieve.”
