Away day success for Loons with 2-0 win

Forfar Athletic picked themselves up off the relegation spot with a 2-0 win over Airdrieonians on Saturday at New Broomfield.

Trialist Jamie McCluskey took the opener for the visitors just after the 10 minute mark with Ross Campbell sealing the deal with a penalty in the 92nd minute.

For the first goal Dale Hilson did well to beat Airdrieonians’ Grant Evans and when McCluskey met his cross he slotted the ball in easily past the home ‘keeper.

Three minutes later Gavin Malin met a McCluskey cross but his shot was blocked well by the ‘keeper.

With four minutes left to go in the first half the home side almost equalised when Liam Coogan’s header was caught by Darren Hill.

A minute later Gavin Swankie had a great run down the left and his shot was almost turned into an 
own goal by Evans and Paddy Boyle.

Five minutes later Malin could have increased the deficit but curled his shot just wide of the post.

Just after the hour mark the home side came close but Coogan just blasted over the bar.

Hilson came close with just over 20 minutes to go but saw his shot blocked by the ‘keeper.

The last real chance for the home side came when midfielder Martin Hardie just headed wide from a Willie McLaren corner.
