A promising start

forfar Athletic made an impressive start to their pre-season campaign with 10 goals in just two games.

New signing Gavin Swankie has also impressed with four goals in two of those games including a hat-trick against Cove Rangers on Saturday.

On Tuesday night, the Loons defeated a lacklustre Montrose side 3-0 at Links Park.

After a slow start, goals from Steven Tulloch and Danny Denholm gave the visitors a 2-0 half time lead.

Gavin Swankie added a third with a powerful close range second half header.

Montrose started to come back late in the game but the Forfar ‘keeper kept the Gable Endies at bay.

Forfar Athletic continued their winning streakwith a 7-2 victory over Highland League side Cove Rangers at Allan Park.

The ‘Loons’ led 2-1 at half time with Kevin Motion and Gavin Swankie the first period marksmen.

Swankie went on to complete his hat-trick in the second half, trialist Mick Dunlop and youngster Duncan Reid with a brace also added to the scoresheet.

The only disappointing feature of the game, which was watched by an excellent travelling support, was an injury sustained by Martyn Fotheringham during the warm-up which saw him unable to take his place in the original starting eleven.

Forfar faced Preston Athletic on Tuesday (last night) and have two more games to come.

They will travel to face Heriot Watt University FC at Riccarton on Thursday, July 19 (closed doors) and Huntly at Christie Park on Saturday, July 21.
