LETHAM Primary School pupil Sandy Mitchell (aged 11) has won his first race in the Super 1 Honda Cadet British Championship.

Round two took place at Shenington Kart Circuit near Banbury at the weekend.

On a grid of 30 young karters (eight to 13-year-olds) in Final 1, Sandy came from 11th place on the grid to take the chequered flag and set a new Shenington lap record for Honda Cadet at the same time.

This placed him on pole position for Final 2 which he went on to take another podium place, finishing third.

Sandy, who won the Scottish ā€œAā€ and ā€œSā€ plate championships last year, stepped up to the Challenge of the Super 1 Honda Cadet British Championship for 2011 and, after mixed fortunes at round one at Whilton Mill Circuit near Northampton, he is absolutely delighted with his latest results and points haul.

The next round takes place at the Rowrah Circuit, Cumbria in June.
