TWO ANGUS teams are through to the First Division play-offs, writes Sarah McLean.
Forfar Athletic booked their place with an excellent 2-1 win over Ayr United at Station Park. Chris Templeman took the home side into the lead just 10 minutes in.
The visitors equalised following a Michael Bolowchoweckyj own goal just after the half hour mark but the home side took the lead again with a well taken Iain Campbell penalty just before half time.
It proved enough to take the three points and cement their fourth place finishing spot in the Second Division.
Forfar’s first play-off game will be the semi-final against Dunfermline Athletic at Station Park tonight (Wednesday, May 8) at 7.45 p.m. with the second leg on Saturday away from home with a 3 p.m. kick-off.
Brechin finished in third position and ended on a high with a 3-0 win over East Fife.
But they left it late with all three goals coming within the last 20 minutes.
David McKenna took the lead in the 70th minute then Jonathan Brown scored two in the 80th then 85th minute respectively.
Brechin’s first leg tonight will be against Alloa Athletic at Glebe Park with a 7.45 p.m. kick-off. The second leg will be on Saturday with a 3 p.m. kick-off.
The finals will take place on Wednesday, May 15 and Sunday, May 19.
Elsewhere, Arbroath’s play-off dreams were demolished on Saturday when they lost 1-0 to Alloa Athletic. But Alloa left it late as well when Scott Hynd took them into the lead in the 89th minute.
In the Third Division Montrose finished their season with a draw against Annan Athletic.
Scott Johnston took the Gable Endies into the lead 24 minutes in but Michael Daly took the equaliser just before the hour mark.
