Airdrieonians best we’ve played: Dick hails Bollan’s side

Loons manager Dick Campbell said Airdrieonians were the best team to visit Station Park this season following Saturday’s 1-1 draw.

Paddy Boyle gave the Diamonds the lead before Mikey Dunlop hit his second of the season to split the points.

And Campbell said the ex-league leaders have no divine right to win games, and that they need to work hard in every fixture, writes Scott Binnie.

He said:”It took us a long time to get going. Airdrie beat Dunfermline 3-1 last week, they’re a good football team - they’re the best team that’s come here this year.

“Who are we to think we’ve got the right to win games without earning it? We had to work.

“It’s a great goal from the boy Dunlop, but we’re just not getting the wee break in front of goal. In the last 10 minutes we’ve got three glaring chances to score.

“Right before their goal, Dale Hilson’s through on goal. The easiest thing to do is roll it into the net. These were going in for us a month ago. But we’re still joint top of the league.

“I think a draw’s the fair result. I’m not stupid, I don’t think we’re going to go into every game and play teams off the park.”

Gary Bollan said: “I think we dominated for long periods. It’s a hard one to take but we could have lost it at the end. We’re playing some good stuff. It’s something to be leaving Forfar disappointed with a point.”
