FORFAR West End came out tops in an eight-goal thriller against Arbroath Vics to clinch their place in the last four of the DJ Laing League Cup on Saturday.
West had to win to clinch top spot in their section, and they took an early lead through Grant Lawson, only for Vics to level through Scott Pearson.

Grant Lawson then had a spot kick saved before Jamie Syme restored the Forfar lead early in the s
econd period.

Lindsay Stewart added a third just after the hour mark, and the game looked over when Martin Black made it four with a long-range effort.

But Vics were far from dead and buried, goals by Gavin Norrie and Lee Jones reducing the deficit to one.

Vanderdeyl pulled off a fine save to deny Pearson a leveller before Scott Johnston made absolutely sure of victory for West with a fifth goal in injury time.

That means West are back in action on Wednesday evening when they entertain Montrose Roselea in a DJ Laing League Cup semi-final tie (kick-off 6.45 pm).

Kirrie Thistle and Forfar Albion were also in League Cup section action at the weekend. Kirrie Thistle lost by two goals to one at home to Carnoustie Panmure.

Ally Scott gave Thistle the lead, but Panmure hit back for victory, courtesy of ex-Loons Aaron Conway (penalty) and Jon Voigt.

Forfar Albion also lost out by the odd goal in three at home to Brechin Vics.

Mark McIntosh had the Guthrie Park outfit in front but a Vics trialist levelled on the hour mark and Rory Crichton grabbed the winner 18 minutes from time.

This coming Saturday, all three local sides are in league action.

In the East Region Super League, Forfar West End travel to take on Linlithgow Rose, while, in the East Region North League, Kirrie Thistle travel to take on Arbroath Vics and Forfar Albion head for Montrose Roselea. The Saturday kick-offs are 2.30 pm.
