KIRRIEMUIR schoolgirl Amy Taylor had the best ever start to her summer holidays when she won the ladies championship at her local golf club - at the age of 15.
Amy celebrated her birthday on Thursday, June 26 and two days later stunned the ladies section by walking off with the championship at Kirriemuir Golf Club.

The Webster's High School pupil first picked up a golf club three years ago and has received coaching from club professional Karyn Dallas.

A spokesperson for the club explained the ladies were unaware of just how much this talented young golfer had come on as, until several weeks ago, she has been too shy to put her name down for the ladies medals.

However, her success was no surprise to the junior section of Kirriemuir Golf Club and PGA Professional Karyn Dallas.

Last year Amy was talked into going along, with the other juniors, to play in some junior opens and by the end of the season she had won the Angus Girls Order of Merit.

This year, after some persuading from junior convener Jimmy Murray, Amy began playing in the ladies competitions.

Amy is part of the TG54.com coaching programme run by Kirriemuir Golf Club Head Professional, Karyn Dallas.

This programme has proven successful, producing talented players at all levels. Karyn identifies Amy as a great prospect, saying: "Amy has already displayed a great talent for the game and with application and dedication there is no limit to how far this talent could take her."

Karyn sees Amy as the first to emerge from a group of junior girls currently in the TG54.com programme and feels that, within two years, the ladies championship will be dominated by juniors.
