FOLLOWING a winter that has been more stop than start Forfar Athletic will bid to get some footie action in the coming week - with a midweek match at Annan Athletic followed by a home joust with current league leaders Livingston on Saturday.
But, once again, the wintry conditions may intervene - adding to the Loons already lengthy back-log of fixtures.

Forfar have only played two matches since mid-December, crashing out of the cup at the hands of Premier League St. Johnstone and getting the better of Albion Rovers in the league.

Indeed, much of the talk from Station Park has centred on bolstering the squad ahead of the heavy fixture schedule ahead, with manager Dick Campbell making his fourth signing of 2010 on Monday evening.

He nipped in to snap up Brechin City striker Ian Harty hours after the 31-year-old had been released by the second division club.

The former Clyde, Stirling Albion, Albion Rovers and Hamilton Accies front man enjoyed a successful month-long loan spell at Station Park prior to Christmas, and comes in to bolster the attack in the push for a promotion play-off spot.

With the Loons having already raided another Angus side for a trio of players in Barry Sellars, Jamie Bishop and Paul Watson, the manager now looks to have a strong squad of players at his disposal for a spring spell that will see the Loons play two games a week.

In the bid to ease the pressure later in the campaign, and weather permitting, the Loons could be in midweek action over the next couple of weeks.

On Wednesday evening Forfar are due to make the long trip to Annan Athletic for a re-arranged fixture, with the hosts hopeful that the game will get the thumbs up.

If the game is played, Forfar will be boosted by the availability of Mark McCulloch, who would have been unavailable for the home match against Elgin City on Saturday past, a game that was postponed due to a frost-bound surface.

Fingers will be crossed that Station Park will be playable this coming Saturday, when full-time Livy are due in town, and certainly things are looking better on that score, with the surface described as 'almost playable' on Monday evening.

Forfar had hoped to play-off another of their outstanding matches on Tuesday of next week. Alas, Queen's Park have declined the offer to make the trip to Forfar, while, at the time of going to press on Tuesday, the Loons were waiting to hear if an approach to East Stirlingshire had been successful.
