RECORDING TOMBSTONE INFO AT DUNNICHEN CHURCHYARD
THE weekend saw a joint exercise involving Dunnichen Heritage Society and Tay Valley Family History Society, who joined forces in the pain-staking task of recording the memorial inscriptions on tomb-stones within the historic setting of Dunnichen Churchyard, near Forfar.
The passage of time and the ravages of the Scottish weather has taken its toll on some of the older stones, and many are difficult, if not almost impossible to decipher.
Sadly, the information on some stones is in danger of being lost for ever. However, the weather was kind, and the volunteers were able to complete the work with little interruption.
It is hoped to publish the results of the study later in the year in book form and on CD, to benefit anyone researching their family history in the Dunnichen area.
