THERE will be a strong local interest in this year's spectacular Edinburgh Military Tattoo, held as usual on the esplanade at Edinburgh Castle.
Fiona Smith, daughter of Fraser and Linda of Turwhappie Farm, Forfar, is taking part in the 2008 event which is due to be televised over the weekend.

Fiona started playing the tenor drum in the High School of Dundee CCF Pipe Band and continued to play when she joined the Edinburgh Universities Officer Training Corps.

For the duration of the Tattoo Fiona is taking part in the "Massed Pipes and Drums" playing for the Royal Highland Fusiliers Pipes and Drums alongside her counterparts in the Scottish Universities OTC.

Fiona, who is 18, will return to Edinburgh in September to start her second year of Medicine at the University of Edinburgh.

Footage of this year's tattoo is due to be screened on BBC on Saturday, August 23 or Monday, August 26.
