An artistically minded Forfar Academy pupil has won a prize for his design for the Kirriemuir Road roundabout in the town.

Zak Finnie’s design of a ‘Copper-plated Stag’ water feature was chosen by local environmental group Forfar in Flower.

Forfar in Flower, who have undertaken to fill the planters, hanging baskets and odd spaces around the town, asked the Art Department of the Academy for designs for the roundabout nearest the school.

Councillor Lynne Devine, who is convener of the group, said: “We were really pleased with the response from the young people with a lot thought and imagination put into the project.

“However, we decided that Zak’s shone out from the others.”

Forfar in Flower has already had sponsorship for the big roundabout on the Glamis Road and promises of sponsorship for the other three.

Stonepack Ltd, have already agreed to sponsor the Glamis Road roundabout, which has previously been a litter trap.

It is hoped that over the next year they will all be completed so that these entrances to Forfar will be transformed.

Another Forfar in Flower project is the patch of unused land at Service Road, Tesco have donated rhododendrons which ought to brighten it up.
