A fitting tribute to five famous Forfar sons was unveiled to the public this afternoon at a prominent site just off the town centre, writes Janet Thomson.

The stunning garden, which is both attractive and educational, has been created by the community group known as the Friends of the Forfar Botanists.

Funding was made available through an Angus Council Community Grant to create the garden in tribute to George Don senior and his sons George junior and David, and the Drummond brothers, Thomas and James.

Angus Councillors Glennis Middleton and Lynne Devine praised the hard working committee who had worked so hard in a short space of time to create the garden which they said was for the whole community, both local and international.

To make the occasion James Meikle, accompanied by his daughters Louise and Katherine, carried out an official planting ceremony in honour of his great great grandfather, Thomas Drummond.

Full details will appear in next week’s paper.
