A well-known Forfar couple have recently celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary.
Sheila and David Westwood celebrated the occasion at their daughter’s house at Bowriefauld, near Letham, on June 9. According to Sheila, they decided on a low-key affair, as getting their entire family together can be problematic, with some grandchildren in the midst of exams. The couple therefore enjoyed a quiet lunch at the Drovers Inn, Memus.
The Westwoods have four children, sons David, Robin and John (all of whom played rugby for Strathmore) and daughter Allison, who have provided them with 10 grandchildren; five boys and five girls!
The couple met when Sheila (86) was performing as a dancer at Doctor Barnardo’s ‘Loons and Laughter’ Christmas show at Forfar Pavilion. Rehearsals for the routines were held in Dundee and David (85) would drive Sheila back and forth and their romance blossomed.
Asked what the secret was to enjoying 60 happy years together, Mrs Westwood told the Dispatch: “A lot of laughter, very few tears, and always respect one another.”
