Warning of danger of chimney fires

THE IMPORTANCE of getting a chimney swept was outlined to members of Forfar Community Council when they met on Thursday evening.

Attending his first meeting, Community Liaison Officer Constable Scott Anderson of Tayside Police told members more than one in three households in Scotland are estimated to be in fuel poverty, which means they are unable to adequately heat their home.

He said: “It appears more people are using open fires and wood burners, most likely as a result of rising costs of gas, electricity and oil.

“As the mercury plummets, residents are reminded that regular inspection and cleaning of chimneys will help prevent fires.”
