Angus Citizens Advice Bureau is looking for community minded people to volunteer as generalist advisers in each of its three offices across Angus - Forfar, Arbroath and Montrose.

Its team of enthusiastic and committed volunteer advisers provide free, confidential, impartial and independent advice and information to all residents of Angus on a broad range of topics, whatever local people need help with.

With the many and frequent changes in legislation local people need this service more than ever to help them cope with such issues as benefit changes, redundancy, debt, housing issues, consumer problems and many more concerns.

Last year they helped with over 17,000 issues and secured over £2,000,000 in financial gains for local people, and demand is increasing.

A CAB spokesperson said: “We are calling on local people to consider whether they can join our team and help us provide this vital service to our community. Full training and support is provided so no prior knowledge is required, just the enthusiasm and commitment to help your local community.”

It’s not just about the help you can provide to your local community, volunteering at the CAB can also help you.

It’s a really stimulating place to volunteer, with lots of different things to do. You can help in a way that suits the time you can spare and the skills you can offer. You can learn new skills and improve your confidence.

Comprehensive bureau training and supervision programmes mean you’ll get lots of support along the way.

Lots of people who have volunteered move on to paid work or further education and if you’re looking for a job, working in a bureau won’t affect your benefits.

If you can commit to around four to six hours each week and would like to apply to be a volunteer, then go along to one of the open days next week as follows: Arbroath – Monday, April 27, 10 a.m. to 12 noon; Forfar – Tuesday, April 28, 1 to 3 p.m.; Montrose - Wednesday, April 29, 10 a.m. to 12 noon, or telephone Janice or Kathy on 01241 439235.
