Tayside Police is continuing to investigate the cause of a road crash in Angus last night which has left a nine-year-old boy is fighting for his life after an accident on the A90 Dundee to Aberdeen Road near to Birkenbush at about 7.30 pm on Thursday evening.
A blue Ford Focus motor car was involved in a collision whereby it left the carriageway and rolled down an embankment.
The four occupants of the vehicle were taken to Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, by ambulance.
The nine-year-old nine, who was a rear seat passenger, sustained serious and potential life threatening injuries.
The driver, a 39-year-old female, was trapped in the vehicle for 40 minutes, she sustained back injuries.
Her nine-year-old son, who was sitting in the back of the car, was taken by ambulance to Ninewells Hospital where he was found to have sustained two punctured lungs and serious leg injuries.
He underwent surgery during the night and is currently in the intensive care unit where his condition is described as serious.
The driver’s daughter, a 17-year-old woman, who was sitting in the back of the car with her 19-year-old boyfriend, were treated for minor injuries and have been discharged from hospital.
All of the casualties come from the Peterhead area of Aberdeenshire.
The road was closed northbound for several hours for crash investigation to be carried out, with diversions in place.
Whilst the road has been reopened, crash investigations are continuing today.
