The twenty-third visit of the Forfar Chabanais Twinning Association took place recently to Chabanais in the Charente, France.
A group of 18 people either flew or went by private car for a 10 day visit to Chabanais.
An excellent programme of visits started with a tannery followed by a visit to a glove making factory with the finished product. Madonna and Lady Gaga are some of the well known clients of this company.
On the Saturday Didier and Nadege invited the group to their house for lunch and the annual boules challenge.
Sunday was a family day with hosts entertaining.
On Monday the group visited the Marais Poitivin, an area of waterways of particular natural beauty and wildlife. Everyone took a boat trip along the waterways before sampling local liqueurs and enjoying a lunch of local produce. There was a visit to a porcelain factory in Limoges, and an excellent lunch in a restaurant by the river Vienne. The afternoon involved making enamel necklaces.
This year’s vineyard was Fronsac near Libourne where there was a talk, lots of sampling and an excellent meal with produce from the estate.
There was a visit to a state of the art recycling plant as well as a river electricity station.
The trip was rounded off at the annual soiree with an excellent meal and entertainment by local dancers, who made sure the Scots took part in their traditional dances.
The AGM of the Twinning Association takes place on Wednesday, September 23 at 7.30pm in the Old Reid Park Bar. A warm welcome is extended to previous members or potential new members.
