The Cortachy Highland Games Committee is busy putting the finishing touches to the programme for this year’s historic highland games and flower show which take place this year on Sunday, August 17.

The popular event has taken place within the beautiful grounds of Cortachy Castle since the 1880s.

It is hailed as a very traditional highland games event that retains its charm and each year gives a warm and friendly welcome to visitors from around the world.

This year’s games, which begin at 1 p.m., will include children’s races, fancy dress competitions, flower and handy crafts in the industrial shows and competitions, traditional heavy events, tug of war, highland dancing, a piping competition, photographic competition, dog show and dog race.

The event’s climax is the famous duck race down the River South Esk, and the games close with a great auction of much of the produce exhibited in the main marquee. A variety of stalls, including those with local home made choices, locally sourced foods and other foods and refreshments including Aberdeen Angus beef burgers, Visocchi’s ice cream and a bar, are all on site.

This year the annual games raffle once again features amazing prizes kindly donated by numerous local businesses and individuals.

They include four cash prizes of £50, a limited edition print by Jack MacDonald, B&B for two at the Glen Clova Hotel, a three course meal for two plus bottle of house wine at the Drovers Inn, Memus, a magnum of champagne, a case of wine, a £50 garden voucher, £15 voucher for logs/kindling/briquettes and numerous other prizes thanks to the generosity of the games patrons and supporters.
