A LOCAL hairdresser has received the National Hairdressing Federation Award (SHFA) for SVQ skillseeker.
Lynsey Farquharson (19) from Brechin, has worked at Hannam’s Hairdresser on East High Street in Forfar for five years.
She started off as a Saturday helper and is now owner Jillian Hannam’s “right hand woman.”
It was Lynsey’s college lecturer who nominated her for the award and she wasn’t expecting it. Lynsey said: “I had no idea I had been nominated but it has been a real boost to my confidence.”
Jillian added: “From day one she has been a quick learner and has shown a real interest in what she is doing. I am very proud of her and know she will continue doing her very best.”
Jillian described Lynsey as “passionate about what she does” as she completed her level three hairdressing qualifaction in just nine months.
Over 70 students attended the Dundee College prize ceremony recently at the Gardyne Theatre on the college’s campus. The ceremony attracted almost 200 friends and family of those receiving awards and over 15 employers and sponsors including college staff who were keen to support their students during an evening of recognition, awards and plaudits.
The college principal, Christina Potter, presented some of the prizes while sponsors also took to the stage to present their specific awards.
There is even more exciting news at the salon as Jillian has been nominated for Salon Owner/Manager of the Year and Lynsey has also been nominated for Stylist/Barber of the Year.
