Time running out for community council

The future of Forfar Community Council is back in doubt, with nominations falling short of the number required for it to be re-established.

So far five names have been put forward, but nine are required.

Monifieth is facing a similar situation with just four names submitted out of a minimum requirement of seven.

Time is running out, as the closing time and date for nomination papers to be received is 4pm this Monday (March 21).

If the required numbers of nominations are received before the closing date, it will mean that Angus will once again have a ‘full house’, with all 25 community councils established.

Both Forfar and Monifieth fell short of the necessary number of nominations during the extended nomination period in September and October last year.

Letters and nomination packs have been sent to all of the petition signatories along with those people who previously submitted nomination papers.

Nominations forms can also be obtained from the Returning Officer (Community Council Elections), Elections Office, Print Unit, Orchardbank Business Park, Forfar, DD8 1AY, or downloaded from the elections page of our website.

If an election is contested, a Notice of Poll will be published on Tuesday, April 5 and voting will take place commencing on Wednesday, April 20. The result of the election will be declared after the close of poll.

Anyone who wants further information or advice can contact the Returning Officer (Community Council Elections) on 01307 476226 or email elections@angus.gov.uk.
