THE ANGUS Pony Club Mounted Games team came third overall in the Prince Phillip Cup at Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) last week.
At the event held in Birmingham, the team got through to the final after four days of competition to eventually come joint third overall alongside Cheshire Hunt (North). Strathearn came second while Oakley Hunt (West) were the winners.
As part of their journey to HOYS the team took part in the Scottish Horse of the Year Show at Ingliston House, Glasgow and came third overall following two days of competition.
They managed to raise the funds to take them to Birmingham by holding a number of activities. This included a bag packing day at Tesco’s which raised £832, a Body Shop party which earned the team £223 in commission and a Zumbathon which added £650 to their funds. The Co-operative outlets in Forfar also sold raffle tickets in aid of funds.
The team funds were further boosted by a cheque for £2,000 donated by the Jockey Jan Memorial Fund.
Jan had been a former member of Angus Pony Club and Margaret Wilson was delighted to be able to help out Jan’s old club with a donation from the Fund.
