THE SAMUEL Chorus presents the ‘Choral Concerts’ and will be performing their two concerts this weekend, Saturday, April 27, and Sunday, April 28.
On the Saturday they will be at the St Mary Magdalene’s Episcopal Church, Dudhope Crescent Road, Dundee, which is opposite the West Bell Street car park.
The following evening they will perform in St John’s Episcopal Church in Forfar.
They will present the choral concerts featuring the music of Cherubini’s Requiem in C minor, Bach’s Motet, Lobet den Herrn and items by Haydn, Taverner, Bruch, Hoffman, Hassler and Anerio.
Both of the concerts begin at 7 p.m. and tickets are a £7 donation at the door. All proceeds will go to charity and all are welcome to attend.
The Samuel Chorus began as a group of friends singing Christmas carols in December 2004, and have grown since then.
The Samuel Chorus has between 25 and 30 folk, from quite a wide geographical radius, and rehearse in the Baptist Hall, Bright St. Lochee, Dundee, on Wednesday evenings from 7.30 p.m.
The singers are all mainly based in Dundee, but some travel from Edzell, Edinburgh, Glasgow and even as far as Troon!
They perform twice a year (late April and early December) and their proceeds are shared with a charity which is usually the choice of their host church or venue.
They sing a variety of quite challenging classical music, covering about six centuries dating back to the medieval times.
They are a very friendly group of people who enjoy singing together and welcome new singers.
This group has impressed listeners since its inception in autumn 2004 by its pleasing tone and tasteful choice of music and they perform in both churches and stately homes.
