THE call for teams to take part in this year’s Relay For Life in Kirriemuir on the weekend of August 13/14 has already resulted in entries from a large number of teams.

“We’re delighted by the response so far,” said Rhona Guild, volunteer secretary and vice chair of Kirriemuir Relay For Life Committee.

“I would encourage anyone considering entering a team to register as soon as possible by visiting www.cancerresearchuk.org/relay or calling 08716 41 26 02.”

Each team can have from eight to fifteen members of all ages and all levels of fitness. “This event is a wonderful opportunity for families, organisations, colleagues and groups of friends to come together for a weekend and have a good time, while also raising funds for an incredibly worthwhile cause,” said Rhona.

“Kirriemuir’s previous Relay for Life raised over £170,000, with more than 500 people joining in the fun.”

This year, Kirriemuir’s Relay For Life is being held at Kirriemuir Show field, East Muirhead of Logie.

Rhona explained that the new venue will enable more teams to take part, as it will be possible to lay out a longer track, as well as enabling more tents to be erected for people to rest and sleep when they’re not on the track.

An information evening is being held in the Function Room at the Airlie Arms, Kirriemuir at 7.30 pm on Wednesday, February 23 for the captains of teams already entered and anyone keen to know more about the event before registering.

“This is a chance for the team captains and potential team captains to find out what will be happening at this year’s event, both on and off the track,” Rhona added.

“It’s also a chance to ask any questions they or their team members may have about the event, especially those who are participating in the Relay For Life for the first time.”

Relay For Life raises funds to help Cancer Research UK support the work of scientists, doctors and nurses who are dedicated to beating cancer.

“Funds are raised through sponsorship and also by donating bags of unwanted clothes and household goods for Cancer Research UK shops, which the Committee will soon be collecting,” continued Rhona.

“This is the third time Relay For Life, Cancer Research UK’s unique celebration of life and hope, has been held in Kirriemuir. It’s so encouraging that this event is once again attracting such a great response from the people of Kirriemuir.”
