Kirriemuir’s new community sports hub will be launched officially on Saturday, April 16, when local clubs will offer free taster sessions to residents.

Based at Webster’s Sports Centre, there will be sports on offer for all ages and abilities to try including bowling, golf, tennis, rugby, cricket, football, gymnastics and combat sports.

Sports hubs were formed as part of the 2014 Commonwealth Games Legacy and the Kirriemuir hub, supported by ANGUSalive and sportscotland, is one of 150 across the country providing a home for sport.

Their purpose is to bring together sports clubs and key local partners who want to enhance and develop the sport that is available within their local community.

Lottery-funded, hubs focus on sustainable, community-led approaches that get clubs working together to develop a welcoming, safe and fun environment for sport.

The open day will begin at 10am and run until 1pm. Local clubs involved in the hub are Kirriemuir Bowling Club, Kirriemuir Golf Club, Kirriemuir Tennis Club, Strathmore Rugby Club, Strathmore Cricket Club, Kirriemuir Thistle Youths FC, Evolution Combat Sports and Angus Axis Gymnastics Club.
