Local cyclists Fiona Young and Jack Davies of Glamis recently completed the ‘End to End’ bike ride.
Starting at Lands End on Saturday, July 23, they completed the impressive ride on August 6 - two weeks later.
The trip, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, was made even more difficult as they had no backup, camped all the way and carried all their gear in panniers on the bikes.
The first couple of days were the hardest, they said: “Going up all the hills in Cornwall and then over Dartmoor was very hard, especially as it was very hot weather.
“This was our annual holiday and we expected it to be very hard work, but knowing that the money we raised was going to such a wonderful charity made it all worthwhile.”
They had an initial target of £2,500 but exceeded that, handing over a cheque this week amounting to £2,676.42 to Roz Martin of the Dundee branch of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Fiona and Jack would like to thank everyone who sponsored them, donated items for the charity shop they had for a week, those who sent messages of support, delivered our car to John O’Groats (so we didn’t have to cycle back home) or helped in any other way.
You can still sponsor Jack and Fiona by visiting their online fundraising page on www.justgiving.com/Jak-Fee.
You can pay by credit or debit card, and the money will go directly to Macmillan Cancer Support.
