Suspect device was a training grenade

A MAJOR incident occurred in Forfar on Thursday morning, writes Hannah Messer.

Workmen who were attending to a job in Forfar’s Stedfast Lane, found what appeared to be a hand grenade.

Tayside Police were called to the property at around 11.25 a.m.

And the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) were also alerted immediately and proceeded to carry out further enquiries into the incident and also to ensure the device was safe.

After an initial examination by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal, it indicated it was a practice grenade.

It was removed by the EOD personnel and a precautionary cordon that had been in place around the immediate area was lifted. No one required to be evacuated during the incident.

A spokesperson for Tayside Police said: “Tayside Police can confirm that a hand grenade found by workmen at a vacant Forfar flat this morning is a training device.

Officers were called to the address in Stedfast Lane at about 11.25 a.m. after workmen found the object.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) were immediately alerted and on attendance confirmed initial indications that the object was a practice grenade.

It was removed by EOD personnel and a precautionary cordon that had been in place around the immediate area was lifted. No one required to be evacuated during the incident.”
