The manager of the Angus Foodbank has outlined the vital role a new van is playing in the charity which is helping those in need throughout the district.
Derek Marshall has thanked the local public which has been so supportive at various collections, as well as Guild Homes (Tayside) Ltd. which recently presented a cheque for £2,000 which went towards the purchase of the van.
Derek said: “We had a couple of other grants which we put against the vehicle which is now in operation.
“We have a food store in Forfar but can now deliver food to our other stores in Brechin and Montrose. Before we had our own van we had to borrow or rent vehicles, which is never ideal.
“The demand for the foodbank is growing throughout the county and this latest donation from Guild Homes really came at the right time. It is making the service easier for us to operate”
He added: “The public always surprises us with their generosity. We have donations from all sorts; from supermarket collections, churches, schools, everyone is most supportive.”
The Angus Foodbank operates on a referral system with up to 90 organisations from the voluntary sector collecting food from the depots for distribution to those in need.
