The beautiful summer weather enjoyed by so many this year also paid dividends for local gardeners, as was evident on Saturday in Kirriemuir.
The Kirriemuir & District Gardening Association held its Summer Show in the Kirriemuir Old Parish Church Hall and the crowds were welcomed by Chairman Stewart Ramsay.
The weather this year has been much improved and there was a much bigger entry in vegetable classes. There was also an increased entry in the flower arranging classes.
The judges this year were Jim Ewing from Forfar for flowers, plants and vegetables and Caroline Lang and Janice Easson for the baking and handicrafts.
The prizes were presented by Mrs Frances Havenga as follows:-
Silver Cup for Most Points in Vegetable Section - Miss Irene Robertson. Runner-up - Mrs Moira McColgan.
John Rugg Cup for leeks - Mrs Moira McColgan.
Silver Cup for most points in cut flower section - Mr George Bruce. Runner-up – Mrs Moira McColgan.
Airlie Cup for most points in pot plant section - Mr George Bruce. Runners-up – Mrs Anne Pole.
Annie Milne Trophy for best dahlia exhibit - Mr George Bruce.
Gibson Silver Salver for best exhibit in classes 1 to 73 - Mr George Bruce.
Elliott Shield Children’s Sections - Ross McKenzie.
Stewart Ramsay Salver for baking - Mrs Elsie Nicoll. Runner-up – Mrs Helen Smith.
Bruce Salver for handicrafts - Mrs Anne Pole. Runner-up – Miss Laura McColgan.
Durston Rosebowl for most points in flower arranging - Miss Irene Robertson.
Benshie Bowl for Class 81 in flower arranging - Mrs Moira McColgan.
