Studio boost for Kirrie music group

KIRRIEMUIR community group DD8 Music are looking forward to another boost at the end of the month.

It has been just a few months since DD8 Music opened the doors of their rehearsal space at Bellies Brae but now they are preparing to offer even more to the community with a full recording studio.

DD8 Music already have the studio fully equipped with a full backline including drums, guitar and bass amps and a full PA. By the end of next month they also hope to have a 32-channel mixing desk and DAW set up for recording.

Graham Galloway, DD8 Music chairman, said: “We have been open for a couple of months now and are just looking to get the last few bits of equipment in place so we can set up the recording studio in the next few weeks.

“At the moment we have a full back-line set up so the musicians can just come in and plug straight in.

“Soon we will have a proper recording desk hooked up to the computer.”

Since the space opened in April it has been a hive of activity with local musicians coming from all over the local area to make use of the facility.

Graham added: “It is a local resource which is used by everyone we have local kids coming in and bands aged between 14 and 60 so there is a broad range from the community.

“We have had a lot of interest from people wanting to come in to record a demo or even book the studio for a whole week.

“It’s really busy as a rehearsal space with it being used almost every other night and sometimes we can have two bands in on the one night.”

The studio is open Monday to Thursday from 6pm to 9pm, Fridays from 6pm to 11pm, Saturday from noon to 11pm and Sunday from noon to 9pm.
