THE latest recipients of a cheque for £100 from the 10 Cafe Bar in Castle Street, Forfar, are members of the Phoenix (Forfar) Gymastics Club.

Representatives of the club, Fiona Reid and Shona Fornes, popped along to the premises on Friday morning to accept the donation from Donna Cruickshank.

The £100 is to be utilised to boost general funds, the club having faced an extremely difficult time financially earlier in the year due to the unexpected the prolonged closure of the regular meeting place, Forfar Lochside Leisure Centre.

“Over the months of December and January we were unable to allow classes to run due to problems with the heating system, and, as a result of class cancellations, we had no income while bills still had to be met,” explained head coach Shona Forbes.

“We are now doing everything possible to generate as much income as we can, with money raised from a trio of fund-raising events in the first half of the year being used to purchase outfits for our display team, and with plans to replace older, out-dated equipment.”

The 10 Cafe Bar donation will go a little way to help with the club’s efforts.

The monthly sponsorship scheme continues and full details on how individuals and group representatives can apply are available on page 18 of this week’s Dispatch and Herald.
