The North Street Chip Shop in Forfar has scooped the title of Best Chippy Chips in Angus for the second consecutive year.
It won the accolade following an open vote by customers in the Choice Chip Awards as part of this year’s National Chip Week.
Stuart Atkinson, owner, said he was delighted the shop had won the award for the second time.
He said: “This is a fantastic result for the whole team here at North Street Chip Shop. To repeat our success of last year is amazing; a big thank you to all who voted for us again this year.”
Run annuallly by the Potato Council in recognition of Chip Week, the Choice Chip Awards champion the tastiest servings of chips across Great Britain.
This year a record number of 68,000 chip-lovers voted for their favourite chip shop out of 900 entrants across 10 regions in Great Britain.
Loyal customers, regulars and fans of North Street Chip Shop battered stiff competition from some of Angus’s top chippies to ensure their perfectly cooked portions were bagged first ‘plaice’.
Kate Cox, organiser on behalf of the Potato Council, said: “We Brits feel strongly about supporting our local chippy, so it’s no surprise so many people took the time to vote for their favourite in the Choice Chip Awards this year. This year we’re asking the Great British public to support their local chippy by celebrating Chip Week with a portion of chips or two from their favourite chip shop.”
