Staff and pupils at Forfar Academy took part in the launch of the Safe Not Scared toolkit, a teachers’ resource designed to promote positive healthy relationships and the prevention of domestic abuse.

The launch, attended by invited guests, takes place during the National 16 Days of Action campaign to highlight and prevent domestic abuse.

Councillors John Rymer and Colin Brown attended the launch on behalf of the education convener, Councillor Peter Nield. Councillor Rymer said: “The aim of this pack is to assist teaching staff with the delivery of the sensitive issue of domestic abuse, and is part of our commitment to tackling domestic abuse using the three P’s – Prevention, Provision and Protection, and ties in with the Scottish Government’s aspirations for all children and young people’s educational experience.

He added: “This toolkit will be integrated into the health and wellbeing area of the curriculum in schools and pre-school centres in Angus. In nurseries, children will learn about healthy relationships, respect and safety; in primary they will learn about anti bullying, respect, safety; healthy relationships, anti-social behaviour and citizenship. In secondary schools young people will learn specifically about domestic abuse in addition to all the areas outlined in nursery and primary.”
