RUMOURS regarding the Royal Hotel being turned into a strip club which were posted on Facebook are unsubstantiated.
The historic hotel had been trading for 300 years before it closed its doors in June 2010, and has sat empty ever since.
Oxford Hotels and Inns are looking to either sell or lease the property to someone who can run the hotel.
David Irvine, area director for Oxford Hotels and Inns said:
“We have not sold the Royal Hotel in Forfar, but Oxford Hotels and Inns are actively looking for freehold sale of the property or a leaseholder to run the site.”
The hotel was an important building in Forfar as it offered 21 bedrooms and this dramatically reduced the number of beds available for visitors to the town.
It had also been a regular meeting place for the Forfar Rotary Club since the 1940s. It had a fantastic reception room which guests could use for functions.
When the hotel closed it was considered to be a loss to the community as many people had fond memories of the hotel when it was a thriving business.
