Ron Leslie has been presented with gifts to mark his retirement from the post of Session Clerk at the Lowson Memorial Church.

On November 1, the ninth anniversary of Rev Karen Fenwick’s first service as minister of the Forfar church, Ron received a Powacaddy and golf balls from Bill McDonald on behalf of the session and congregation.

Ron has had a close connection with the Lowson all his life, from his baptism, through Sunday School, Boy Scouts and Communion classes to his wedding to Ruth and the baptisms of his three daughters.

He was ordained as an elder in 1981 by Rev Malcolm Dowie along with the first lady elders in the Lowson. He was Fabric Convener for the next 20 years before, at Rev Robert McCrum’s invitation in 2000, he became Session Clerk, with his condition that the post would be for a maximum of five years!

As he stepped down he said: “Firstly to Ruth and the girls and our grandchildren, my thanks for their support and understanding; to Karen and the whole Manse family, my thanks for putting up with me, to fellow clerk Sheena, who has herself only recently retired, Brian, our treasurer, Mary Linda, our rollkeeper, Mary, co-editor of the old Bulletin, Ann in the office, Pat, our Fabric Convener and Bill, who just seems to do everything, my thanks for making my job so much easier; to all Elders and Board members, my thanks for being so willing to go the extra mile when required, and. to the whole church family, my thanks for being such a wonderful, generous bunch.’’

Newclerk, Gordon Longmuir, and wife, Gail, were introduced to the congregation.
